A power point presentation on the history of Hill Hook Local Nature Reserve was given to The Women's Institutes, at Little Aston Centre on the 3rd of Feburary 2010.



Event Name: CONSERVATION WORKING PARTY

Conservation working party inculding thinning, coppicing and scub management in the woodland below the dam and resurfacing the steps with Breadon gravel.

Review of the event

Paul Stephenson senior ecologist from The Wildlife Trust for Birmingham and The Black Country along with 16 volunteers, spent a glorious sunny day undertaking key conservation work to maintain and enhance the biodiversity of the Nature Reserve.

The activities including surfacing two sts of steps down the Mill Pool Dam and reapring sections of the dam path with Breadon Gravell.

The other management work ivolved creation of a ride or wider walkway through woodland between the Mill Pool and Hill Hook Road. The open conditions will be valuable for improved groundflora vegetation which will help the habitat for butterflies, other invertebrates and birds.

Paul Stephenson, Senior Ecologist from The Wildlife Trust for Birmingham and The Black Country, is leading a Woodland management working party which will include thinning, coppicing in the area by Four Oaks Saints Cricket Ground and we are planning to make seats from oak logs.
